There are several Places to visit in Karachi, that you should never miss if you plan to go there. Following are 10 of those places that visitors must see.

Mazar-e-Quaid

The first and the most important place to visit, I think, is Mazar-e-Quaid. This mausoleum has a great history. It is a symbol of struggle, determination and success. For different people, the meaning of the word success, might be different; but for the great leader, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, success was a separate land for the Muslims of subcontinent. He clearly understood the difference between culture and customs of Hindus and Muslims and with his wisdom and leadership qualities he succeeded in acquiring a separate land for Muslims.

With faith, discipline and selfless devotion to duty, there is nothing worthwhile that you cannot achieve”, said The Great Leader.

Ports in Karachi

Pakistan Deep Water Container Port, also called China port, has become a new visiting place for the people living in Karachi. As the name suggests, this port was built under an alliance between Pakistan and China. This is also a must visit place for it’s an afresh constructed site in Karachi with the pleasurable sights of the sea.

The Port of Karachi, called Bandargah Karachi, one of the busiest seaports in South Asia, is also a must visit place. There have been many different ports on this spot in the history.

The Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, which is also called Port Qasim, is the third port located in Karachi.

Beaches of Karachi

On the other hand, there are beaches in Karachi. People go and arrange huts for themselves and enjoy the freshness that the nature has to offer. There are some beaches that are open for public and others where only the landlords stay who own he huts. There are hotels to stay with the qualities of friendly staff and hygienic environment. You can enjoy a nice picnic there, or else you can have a nice meal at a hotel with friends and family.

Port Grand

One of the most entertaining places in Karachi is Port Grand. You can have delicious street food. If you want to promenade beside the beachfront or you want to stretch your legs and relax, you must enjoy the leisurely atmosphere of Port Grand.

The Quaid-e-Azam House

The Quaid-e-Azam House, the residence of the founder of Pakistan, which is now turned into a museum dedicated to his style and approach to life. You can explore the lifestyle of the great leader. All the things in that house tell us how punctual and dedicated he was to his work and to life.

Mohatta Palace

The wonderful palace built by a Hindu businessman as his summer home is an art gallery and a museum in the present time. The palace was built in 1927 featuring the unique Rajasthan stone palaces style. The palace now hosts cultural and heritage festivals.

Pakistan Air Force Museum

Out of the Places to visit in Karachi, The museum and gallery inaugurated in 1990 is an isolated part of an air base, displays most of the aircrafts used by the Pakistan Air Force.  It also features World war 1 and 2 scale models and the air crafts of India, Iraq and Afghanistan captured during different wars. So if you are fascinated by flying objects, this place is a must visit for you.

Chaukhandi Tombs

These tombs, built in between 15th to 18th century, were the home to the ancestors of Sindhi and Balochi tribes. The mystifying cutting in geometric plan is one of a kind and its delicacy gives the impression of woodcarving. The development of graves was finished with the buff sandstones. Antiquarians should never miss this place located in Landhi town in west Karachi.

HOW TO PERFORM UMRAH?

What is Umrah?

In Arabic language the word “Umrah” is derived from I’timar which means a visit. However in Islam it means a visit to Kaaba and performing Tawaaf around it. Being a travels and tours company, lot of people come and ask us about “how to perform Umrah”, so we decided to write something for all our users.

Umrah can be performed during any time in the year; there is no fixed time for it.

Pillar of Umrah

The pillars of Umrah are four

  • Ihraam
  • Tawaaf
  • Sa’yee
  • Tahal-lul

Difference b/w Hajj & Umrah

During Umrah pilgrim do not go to Mina, Arafaat, and Muzadalifah or throw pebbles on the Jumrahs or offer animal sacrifice. These are only performed during Hajj.

Major Steps of Umrah

To make it easy, we are going to write it in steps for you

  • When the one who wants to perform Umrah arrives at the Meeqaat, it is recommended for men and women to take a bath if convenient.
  • The man perfumes his head and beard but not his Ihram garments.
  • Men should wear a sheet of White cloth around the waist and cover the upper body with the other sheet, while the women only need to make their intention at that time in the clothing which they are already wearing. Women, ordinary clothes are their Ahram.
  • Both should wear the flip- flop(Hawaii Chapal) so that the middle bones of the upper part of the feet are not covered.
  • The pilgrim makes the intention at the Meeqaat to begin the rites of Umrah by entering the state of Ihraam.
  • Upon arriving at the sacred mosque in Makkah ( Al- Masjid – All Haraam) enter right foot and say Bismillaah Allahumma Salli Alla Muhammad, Allahumma Ighfirli Waflahli Abwaaba Rahmatik.
  • Upon arriving at the Kaabah stop reciting the Talbiyyah, then approach the black stone, touch it with right hand and kiss it. When touch the stone say Allah u Akbar.
  • At the Yammaani corner touch it with right hand but don’t kiss it and say Bismillaahi Wa Allahu Akbar. But if it is difficult then go on Tawaaf without touching it.
  • During Tawaaf recite the Quran, anything you wish. After complete seven circuits of Tawaaf approach Maqaam Ibraaheem and recite this verse of Quran 2:125.
  • Then pray two short Rakahs as close as conveniently possible behind Maqaam Ibrahim. It is preferred to recite Al- Kafiron(109) in first Rakah and Al – Ikhlass(112) in second Rakah.
  • After two Rakah’s return to the black stone and touch it if possible.
  • The next stage is to go to Safaa, upon approaching the foot of Safaa recite verse of ( Quran, 2:158). Then climb up to mount Safaa until the Kabah is visible. In front of Kabah say three times Allahu Akbar ,Allahu Akbar ,Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha I’ll llah llaahu Wadahu LA Shareeka lahu LahulMulku Wala hulhmdu Wa huwa alla qulli shay in Qadeer, Laa illaha illal llahu wahdahu anjaza wahdahu Wa Nasara abdahu Hazamal ahzaaba wahdahu.
  • Then descend and go towards Marwah running between the bright green lights for men only. There are no particular supplications to be recited between Safaa and Marwa. Everyone must have to complete seven circuits by ending the last one at Marwah.
  • Then one is to have his hair cut although shaving it is better. Women should shorten their hair by a finger tips length from the end.

The rights of Umrah have been now completed. We did our best to make it simple and as per Sunnah and hope you learnt about how to perform Umrah. May Allah accept our good deeds.

Mohenjo Daro History – A mysterious archaeological place to visit

Mohenjo Daro is one of the most mysterious places located in Pakistan to visit and going to discuss about Mohenjo Daro History. From the travel and tour point of view, it is a very interesting place to be seen. You can learn harmony, sense of responsibility, interdependence and the importance of preserving natural resources. Architects and structural engineers must visit the site and try to find out how in the world was an amazing structure built almost five millennia back in time. I am sure after visiting, you would wish to have a time machine and see everything happening live.

There is also a museum located just near the site that displays the pottery, weapons, kitchen utensils and many other historical things that the people of the city used. Restrooms are built near the site to accommodate tourists.

The Mound of the Dead

Mohenjo Daro is a word of Sindhi language which means “the mound of the dead”. The name was given to the site when during excavation of a mound the archaeologists found out that these mounds accommodate the remains of a city that was once the largest settlement of Indus valley civilization

Weather and atmosphere

If you are afraid of hot summer season, you must go to this place in winter season because of the melting temperature of the region.

Starting from May and August, temperatures frequently increase beyond 46 °C (115 °F) and during December and January, usual temperature is of 2 °C (36 °F).

Discovery

According to harappa.com,  Mohenjo Daro was discovered in 1922 by R. D. Banerji, an officer of the Archaeological Survey of India, two years after major excavations had begun at Harappa, some 590 km to the north.

Mohenjo Daro is a site of ancient ruins in Sindh, Pakistan, engineered just about 5000 years ago. It absolutely was discovered in 1922 and has become a very important and yet a mysterious archaeologic discovery, as a result, it once housed the Indus valley civilization, one among the earliest settlements within the world’s history.

In 1980 the site became the primary UNESCO world heritage site in South Asia. Today, owing to improper tries at restoration and erosion the location is vulnerable. Excavations were declared illegal in 1965 owing to the weathering effects on exposed structures.

Recent core drilling has shown that the location is even larger than what has been unearthed to this point. According to some sources the city might totally get demolished by 2030 due to poor preservation and flooding.

Location

It is situated in Sindh (Larkana district) a southern province of Pakistan, the largest settlement of the Indus valley civilization accommodating 40,000 people in that time. Mohenjo Daro lay on the bank of river Indus. More than 1000 cities have been discovered ever since, spread out in the area twice as France.

Historical facts

The city was built in 2600 BCE and was the largest city of Indus valley. It was the most developed part of the civilization, with the most advanced civil engineering techniques and remarkable urban planning. Main source of income was trade. Crops mainly were grown like wheat, barley, rice, peas and millet. The city was abandoned in 1900 BCE due to unidentified reasons.

Architecture & Facilities

The mastermind of their structures is revealed by alignment and positioning of the streets. The entire city has an intricate water management system. It has 80 community toilets. There was built a great bath for the daily ablution, people of Mohenj-Daro came to this pool for bathing. Round about the great bath was a walkway with fountains. The houses and streets were very well managed. The interconnected drainage system clarifies that the whole city was precisely planned before its construction. The city was divided into two parts the Citadel and the Lower town. The citadel was built on a mound of baked bricks. It accommodated all the state buildings. The Great Bath is also situated on the citadel. The Lower town was the residential area.

The science and mastery

The remains clearly show their mastery in science and technology. Their buildings show their impressive knowledge of Civil engineering. Most of the constructions are built of well baked bricks. Only some structures use sun dried bricks, there are some wooden structures as well. They also were the first people to introduce measurement. The weights and seals indicate their very precise measurement system. They had toilets and bathing area in almost every house. The sewerage system was very well plumbed and managed throughout the city.

Some interesting facts

  • This valley is an endless source of questions, that how people so old were so organized and possessed with such a level of knowledge. Knowledge that is reflected in their construction work, impressive buildings, well managed sewerage system and perfectly arranged streets.
  • There are no temples, palaces or castles found in the other cities of the Indus valley. Which shows that there was no political leader, king or any religious leader of the city. However, there must have been an elected representative to represent them in the major government.
  • There is a great mystery that how were these valleys built? But how they were abandoned is even a greater point to ponder. Some of the archaeologists believe that the river Indus changed its course and devastated the city but this doesn’t explain the destruction of the whole Indus valley civilization. Others say there was some great war brought by the Aryas that resulted this ruination but the most authentic reason is yet to be discovered
  • The archaeologists are unable to find any traces of religion.  The building closest to a temple found in the city is the great bath.
  • Double story buildings are also discovered.
